Opioids are a group of organic compounds in which it contains tertiary amine and ester group which have their effects on the central nervous system which is responsible for the happiness or relieving pain. In many parts of the world, people are seen using such narcotic group of drugs. In this paper, a brief history of opioids such as heroin, its synthesis and the mechanism involved in this reaction is given.
