A series of new sulfonamide derivatives of tryptamine as N-(2-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethyl)-substituted-sulfonamides 7(a-j) were synthesized by simple substitution of sulfonyl chlorides containing pharmacologically active functionalities 6(a-j) with tryptamine (5) in presence of triethylamine. Structures of all the newly synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, 1H, 13C NMR, mass and elemental analysis. Antimicrobial activity of the title compounds was evaluated and minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) were also determined. A few of the titled compounds exhibited potential antibacterial and antifungal activities.
