A simple, sensitive and selective method for the determination of glibenclamide in bulk and in pharmaceutical formulations is described. The method is based on extraction of this drug into chloroform as ion-pair with sulphonphthalein dyes as bromocresol purple (BCP) and bromothymol blue (BTB). The optimum conditions of the reactions were studied and optimized. The absorbance of the yellow products was measured at 418nm for Glibenclamide-BCP and 424nm for Glibenclamide-BTB. The calibration curves obeyed Beer's law over the concentration range of 2.5-12.5μg/mL for Glibenclamide-BCP and Glibenclamide-BTB with correlation ( r2=0.9996 & 0.9998) respectively. The result of the proposed methods were compared stastically (F & t-test) with those of the reference method reported in the literature and was found no significant difference with good recovery.
