Two simple, accurate, precise and sensitive methods for Naproxen and Ibuprofen have been developed using atomic absorption spectrometer. These methods are based on reaction of both the drugs with Copper (II) chloride and Cobalt (II) chloride to give purssion blue colour and light pink colour metal complexes respectively. These complexes are readily extracted with dichloromethane and estimated via determination of copper and cobalt content in the formed complexes after digestion with 0.1 M Sulphuric acid by atomic absorption spectrometer. Naproxen and Ibuprofen can be determined in the concentration ranges 2.5- 25.0 and 1.5-22.5 μgÃ?¯Ã?â?¬Ã? ml-1 with mean percentage recovery 100.06 ± 0.13 and 100.05 ± 0.08% respectively. The proposed methods were also applied for analysis of pharmaceutical formulations and the results obtained were statistically analyzed.
