Corrosion behaviour of mild steel in binary mixture s of dilute (IN) acids (H 2 SO 4 , HCl, HNO 3 , H 3 PO 4 , H 2 CrO 4 ) has been studied. In HCl: HNO 3 and H 3 PO 4 : HNO 3 mixtures when small amount of HCl or H 3 PO 4 was added to HNO 3 , it reduced the weight loss of mild steel considerab ly. In HCl: H 2 SO 4 mixture, a small amount of HCl caused acceleration of attack. In H 2 SO 4 : H 3 PO 4 mixture, attack in single acid was low but in 1:1 mixture the attack was very severe. In H 2 SO 4 : HNO 3 mixture and H 2 CrO 4 : HNO 3 mixture, the addition of H 2 SO 4 or H 2 CrO 4 to HNO 3 continuously deceased their attack. In H 2 CrO 4 : H 2 SO 4 mixture, addition of H 2 CrO 4 to H 2 SO 4 had practically no effect. The addition of H 2 CrO 4 to HCl had accelerating effect up to 1:1 ratio. Me tal is not attacked in H 2 CrO 4 and addition of H 3 PO 4 to H 2 CrO 4 had no detrimental effect.
