Synthesis, Characterization and Evaluation of Novel N-(1H-Benzimidazol-2-Yl)-2-Isatinylidene-Hydrazinecarboxamide Derivatives as Anti-Inflammatory Agents

A series of isatin derivatives were synthesized by condensation of N-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)-hydrazine carboxamide with various isatin derivatives and evaluated for in vivo (rat paw edema) for their anti-inflammatory activity using carrageenan induced rat paw edema model. The synthesized compounds 6a-6h were characterized by spectral data (IR, 1H-NMR and mass) and elemental analysis. All the novel isatin derivatives exhibited mild to moderate activity. Compound 6b, 5-methyl isatin derivative exhibited better anti-inflammatory activity compared with control and other test compounds with percentage inhibition of 63.15.
